3M introduces space-saving library handling system

3M Library Systems has launched a new automated materials handling system for libraries.

The 3M Intelligent Return and Sorter System has been designed to save space, with a small footprint and three bins, as the company’s research found 60 per cent of libraries are not able to accommodate other systems which are currently available.

Rory Yanchek, 3M Track and Trace Solutions general manager, added: "Our research found that most librarians want the dramatic productivity and customer service gains that can be achieved with automated materials handling."

Joan Detloff, marketing manager for 3M Library Systems, also described the Intelligent Return and Sorter product has having "the speed, accuracy and reliability that libraries expect".

Both barcodes and radio frequency identification tags can be processed by the system, which can also reactivate electromagnetic security strips and comes with the option of a printer for receipts.
