3M launches pathogen detection system
3M has launched a new pathogen detection system expected to deliver more sensitive and user-friendly results than previous programmes, combining two different technologies to achieve this aim.
The Molecular Detection System uses isothermal DNA amplification and ATP bioluminescence to provide positive results in 15 to 20 minutes and negative results in 75 minutes, 3M claimed.
It has been evaluated with the full gamut of food types, including dairy and meat, establishing its efficacy at the industry level.
3M's Damien Doherty said: "Food processors and contract labs now have the specificity and sensitivity required for pathogen detection without compromising on productivity."
He added that this new technology will allow technicians to work more quickly without compromising on safety, avoiding the need for complex maintenance and cleaning processes.
This comes after the company extended its Ultrathon Insect Repellent range by introducing a new 100ml pump spray version, following the launch of the product in the UK last year.
