3M recognised for environmental performance

3M has been presented with Gold-Class distinction in the 2010 Dow Jones Sustainability Index in honour of its environmentally-friendly business performance.

The company was awarded the accolade in recognition of its long-standing commitment to energy conservation and environmental protection, as well as the safe and healthy working conditions it provides for its staff.

In achieving this, 3M was judged by evaluator Sustainability Asset Management to be among the leading green companies out of the 2,500 firms in the Dow Jones global stock market index.

Keith Miller, manager of environmental initiatives and sustainability in 3M’s environmental, health and safety unit, said the firm considers good performance in this area to be a “matter of sound business practice”, as well as social responsibility.

He added: “We very much appreciate the recognition 3M is receiving for its efforts and for the contribution the company has made to this vital worldwide cause.”

The company is responsible for a number of key services and brands in the consumer healthcare market, such as its Nexcare range of first aid products.
