3M settles patent lawsuit with Broadband Products

3M has announced it has settled a lawsuit with Broadband Products.

The technology company brought the case against Broadband Products regarding a patent dispute relating to a butt-splice connector product used by telephone companies.

3M’s trademarked Scotchlok Connector – a "U" or insulation-displacement connector – was developed to efficiently splice plastic-insulated copper wire in one step. The product included tap, butt and inline connectors, the company explained.

Following the settlement of the case in the US district court for the western district of Texas, Broadband Products made an agreement to cease the sale, offer of sale, import, manufacture and use of UY2 and UR2-type butt-splice connectors.

Additional details of the case’s settlement have not been disclosed due to confidentiality issues.
