Abbott discusses Architect Core

Abbott’s Architect Core is designed to help medical professionals diagnose acute, chronic or resolved hepatitis B virus infection.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted the product ? which is intended to be used with Architect I 2000 and I 2000SR ? premarket approval.

When used alongside other clinical information and laboratory results, the chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay can detect the antibodies IgG and IgM to help diagnose the disease.

Mike Warmuth, senior vice-president of Abbott’s diagnostics division, commented on the FDA’s authorisation of the Architect Core.

He said: “This approval provides an important test with excellent clinical performance for our laboratory customers and the patients they serve.”

A number of agents can cause the condition ? which is an inflammation of the liver ? including bacteria, viruses, drugs, toxins and excessive consumption of alcohol.

Earlier this month, the Abbott RealTime HIV-1 Assay and m2000 System was recommended by the Cross-Network Laboratory Focus Group to be used as a standard protocol for viral load testing in clinical trials of HIV and Aids.
