Abbott launches Accelerator a3600 lab automation solution
Abbott has announced the launch of a new laboratory automation track system to help laboratories process a larger quantity of tests at a faster pace.
The Accelerator a3600 system has been developed in association with Inpeco and is so named because it can process up to 3,600 samples per hour, handling multiple tube sizes and types simultaneously.
Automation systems include the various instruments, devices and software algorithms used in laboratories, allowing technicians to avoid needing to perform routine manual tasks, thus reducing errors and improving efficiency.
Due to its modular design, labs will also have the ability to install up to 99 combined analysers and modules on a single system.
Brian Blaser, executive vice-president of diagnostics products at Abbott, said: "As laboratories around the world face challenges due to staffing shortages, budget constraints and increased demands, advances in automation technology … can help labs be more efficient and productive."
This comes after the firm received CE Mark approval for its new Architect Galectin-3 assay, for determining the prognosis of heart failure patients, earlier this month.
