Agilent’s XF technology reaches 500th cancer research citation
Agilent Technologies has celebrated a new milestone for the XF cell metabolism measuring technology provided by its subsidiary Seahorse Bioscience.
The innovative technology, which provides new parameters for understanding the processes by which cells produce and consume energy, has reached its 500th citation in cancer research with a new study published in Scientific Reports.
Led by the Sapienza University of Rome, the study utilised Seahorse's XF Extracellular Flux Analyser to see whether inhibiting the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway may represent a potential therapeutic approach in acute myeloid leukaemia.
The analyser was used to track the metabolic changes induced by the molecules in question. It is believed that the research could be relevant for other haematological malignancies, including lymphomas, myeloma and lympho- and myelo-proliferative diseases.
Agostino Tafuri, associate professor of haematology at the department of clinical and molecular medicine at Sapienza University and Sant'Andrea Hospital of Rome, said: "This innovative approach has been successfully explored through the use of the Seahorse XF Extracellular Flux Analyzer, which proved to be the appropriate methodology for dissecting the real metabolic status of leukaemia cells."
