Alcon raises eye health awareness during World Glaucoma Week

13th March 2013

Alcon has called on people around the world to educate themselves on the dangers posed by glaucoma and the need for earlier detection of the condition.

Tying in with World Glaucoma Week, a joint initiative of the World Glaucoma Association and the World Glaucoma Patients Association, the company noted that 67 million people worldwide are affected by the condition, with half of these being unaware that this is the case.

Glaucoma is a group of progressive eye diseases that is typically associated with high intraocular pressure and can damage the optic nerve, resulting in a gradual loss of vision and eventually blindness.

As such, the eye health specialist has underlined the importance of people taking the time to attend eye examinations regularly and making sure relatives with glaucoma stick to their prescribed medication regimen.

It also recommended that people speak with loved ones, friends and colleagues about the need for early detection.

Alcon is one of the largest specialist eye health companies in the world, offering products across 180 markets and running operations in 75 countries.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801555477-ADNFCR
