Allergan names new president

Allergan has announced the appointment of Douglas Ingram as its new president, a role that will place him in charge of the company's global commercial operations.

He will transition into the post with immediate effect, taking responsibility for furthering the development of Allergan's broad portfolio of pharmaceutical, consumer and medical device products.

Mr Ingram has been with the firm since 1996 and has served as its executive vice-president and president for Europe, Africa and the Middle East for the past three years, leading its regional pharmaceutical and medical device operations.

He boasts more than 25 years of professional experience and has a strong background in the healthcare industry, both in the US and worldwide.

David Pyott, chairman of the board and chief executive officer at Allergan, said: "Doug has built an impressive record of accomplishment and is widely regarded throughout our organisation as a leader who is committed to the highest standards of excellence in all areas."

Last month, the company announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2013, during which it experienced an 8.4 percent year-on-year increase in sales.
