Amgen to create new factory at former Pfizer site in Dublin

24th August 2011

Amgen will be expanding its operations in Dublin with the creation of a new manufacturing plant at its recently acquired Dun Laoghaire site in Dublin.

The company will build an 8,600 sq m factory and 3,000 sq m warehouse at the site on Pottery Road, which will be used in the production of next-generation treatments for cancer and other serious diseases, reports the Sunday Business Post.

It comes in addition to the existing facilities at the plant, which was purchased from Pfizer in May 2011, saving 280 jobs that would have been lost had the site closed down as originally planned.

By building the new manufacturing facilities, Amgen will create an additional 100 jobs and has been consulting local residents over its plans, inviting them to visit the company on open days to find out more information.

It is expected to take ten months to build the plant and a further nine months before it is equipped for full operations.

Last month, Amgen announced that its new cancer therapy Xgeva has been cleared for launch in the EU by the European Commission after proving its safety and efficacy.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800708984-ADNFCR
