Amgen’s Prolia shows high adherence levels in new study
Amgen has published a new study that demonstrates the high levels of therapy adherence seen among osteoporosis patients using its drug Prolia.
The twice-yearly injection-based treatment has been evaluated in adherence terms over the course of a two-year open-label study that compared it to a leading weekly oral alternative.
It was found that more than 90 percent of patients preferred Prolia as a therapy option, with those using the drug demonstrating better levels of compliance and persistence with the regime.
Professor Nick Freemantle of the University of Birmingham said these findings are important due to the fact that those who do not take their medication as prescribed will still be at risk of suffering fractures.
"Prolia is an important treatment option for patients not only because of its efficacy and safety, but also because, as this study suggests, women may be more likely to stay on treatment," he explained.
Last month, Amgen published phase III clinical trial data for its new drug Xgeva, showing its efficacy in preventing bone complications among prostate cancer patients.
