Bausch and Lomb agrees licensing deal for KeraSoft contact lenses
Bausch and Lomb has signed a deal with UltraVision CLPL to market and sell the KeraSoft contact lens range worldwide.
The global eye care specialist's network of channel partners will begin introducing the soft contact lenses in a phased rollout over the coming year, while Bausch and Lomb has also taken ownership of the KeraSoft trademark.
UK-based manufacturer UltraVision CLPL has already been honoured with the Queen's Award for Enterprise and Innovation for the lenses, which utilise a silicone hydrogel composition to allow them to be custom-made for irregularly-shaped corneas.
Jerry Warner, vice-president of marketing and general manager at Bausch and Lomb's global contact lens division, said the deal will expand access to this clinically important new advance.
"Demonstrating our commitment to our laboratory partners, we are pleased to offer KeraSoft contact lens technology for those keratoconus patients looking for a soft lens alternative," he added.
Last week, the company published a survey revealing that the majority of consumers consider vision improvement to be the most important aspect of an eye care product, ahead of comfort and appearance.
