Bausch and Lomb appoints global development operations head

Bausch and Lomb has announced the appointment of Dr Donald Gagliano as its new vice-president of global development operations.

Dr Gagliano is a US military colonel, retinal ophthalmologist and fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives, serving since 2008 as executive director at the US Department of Defense/Department of Veterans Affairs Vision Center of Excellence.

He will be tasked with leading a scientific review of global business development opportunities and strategic initiatives for the firm's pharmaceuticals division, as well as supporting special projects being carried out by Bausch and Lomb's surgical business.

Dan Wechsler, group executive vice-president and president for Bausch and Lomb Global Pharmaceuticals, said: "He will play a leading role as we continue to develop and deliver innovative solutions to physicians and their patients in markets around the world."

This comes after the firm appointed Robert Bertolini as its new president and chief financial officer earlier this year, succeeding Brian Harris.
