Bausch and Lomb completes Technolas Perfect Vision takeover
Bausch and Lomb has announced the completion of its acquisition of Technolas Perfect Vision, a leading German-based ophthalmology laser company.
Technolas Perfect Vision was created through a joint venture between Bausch and Lomb and 20/10 Perfect Vision back in 2009 for the development of advanced refractive and cataract technologies, with the takeover agreement being signed in November 2012.
Since December 2011, the two companies have been co-promoting the Victus femtosecond laser, which is able to perform both cataract and refractive procedures on a single platform and has been successfully launched in the US and Europe.
The Technolas Perfect Vision team will become part of Bausch and Lomb's surgical business, bringing together two of the world's strongest eye care brands to form a new entity called Bausch and Lomb Technolas.
Brent Saunders, president and chief executive officer of Bausch and Lomb, said the acquisition will result in exciting new product additions that "round out Bausch and Lomb's surgical product portfolio and position us to become a one-stop shop for ophthalmic surgeons".
This week, the company also announced the launch of a phase III trial of a new glaucoma drug candidate licensed from its partner Nicox.
