Bausch and Lomb launches Incise IOL in Europe

Bausch and Lomb is introducing an enhanced acrylic microincision intraocular lens (IOL) for cataract surgery applications in Europe.

The Incise IOL is designed for use in combination with the capabilities of the Stellaris Vision Enhancement System and allows surgeons to perform microincision cataract surgery of less than two mm.

Because this technique is less invasive, it allows for more rapid visual recovery, while the lens offers a number of features to deliver an enhanced experience for both the surgeon and patient.

It incorporates aspheric advanced optics that are designed to enhance visual quality, while its design also helps to avoid the common long-term problem of posterior capsular opacification.

Dr Cal Roberts, executive vice-president and chief medical officer at Bausch and Lomb, said: "The addition of this next generation lens to our portfolio adds an exciting new option for ophthalmic surgeons performing micro-incision surgery."

Earlier this month, the company agreed a deal with PhysIOL to distribute a range of trifocal diffractive and toric IOLs in various countries.
