Bausch and Lomb study highlights glare issues for glasses wearers

Bausch and Lomb has commissioned a survey that highlights the issues faced by glasses and contact lens users due to glare and halos when viewing bright light sources.

The company has reported results from a poll of 3,800 vision-corrected subjects from seven nations, including the UK, finding that around half suffer from these problems more than three times a week.

More than 80 percent of those reporting the issues said they found them bothersome, with difficulties most likely to be posed during the evening hours, particularly when driving.

Carla Mack, director for global medical affairs for Bausch and Lomb, stated that eye care professionals can play a role in addressing these "common and bothersome symptoms" for consumers.

"Some spectacle designs, as well as aspheric contact lenses, may help patients achieve optimal visual correction with no halos or glare," she said.

Earlier this year, the company expanded its own range of contact lenses by agreeing a worldwide licensing deal for the KeraSoft range, developed by UK-based UltraVision CLPL.
