Bausch and Lomb vice president receives award

Bausch and Lomb’s vice president Dr Joseph Barr has been awarded the 2008 European Federation of the Contact Lens Industry (EFCLIN) award.

Recognised for “outstanding contributions to the contact lens industry”, Dr Barr’s career and professional education have been in research and development.

Currently an emeritus professor of optometry and vision science at Oho State University, he has written more than 50 peer-reviewed publications related to contact lenses and the cornea.

Between 1986 and 1996, he was chairman of the clinic committee/chief of optometry clinical services and, prior to joining Bausch and Lomb in July 2007, he served as the associate dean for the clinical services and professional programme at the Ohio State University College of Optometry.

Dr Barr was also editor of Contact Lens Spectrum from 1987 to 2007 – one of the longest editorial tenures in healthcare publishing – and edited the Contact Lens Today weekly newsletter.

Bausch and Lomb specialises in soft and rigid gas permeable contact lenses and lens care products and ophthalmic surgical and pharmaceutical products.
