Baxalta reports positive data from new haemophilia drug trial
Baxalta has announced new clinical trial results that demonstrate the benefits of its investigational haemophilia A therapy BAX 855.
Complete data from a phase II/III pivotal study and phase I trial of BAX 855 in the medical journal Blood has shown the drug's potential to provide strong bleeding prevention with twice-weekly dosing.
The prophylactic regimen with the investigational, extended half-life recombinant factor VIII therapy resulted in a 95 percent reduction in median annualised bleeding rates compared to on-demand treatment.
Data from these studies will be used to support the company's efforts to secure regulatory approval for the drug, which will be marketed under the brand name Adynovate.
Dr Leonard Valentino, global head of haematology medical affairs at Baxalta, said: "The results of this pivotal trial demonstrate the ability of Adynovate to help further personalise treatment regimens to minimise the impact that haemophilia has on patients' lives."
Baxalta began operating as a standalone independent company at the start of this month, following its spin-off from Baxter.
