Baxter publishes positive trial data from Advate study

14th July 2010

Baxter has presented new clinical data on its haemophilia treatment Advate, which demonstrates its safety and efficacy in accordance with several key criteria.

According to findings published in the journal Haemophilia, patients trialled using the new drug demonstrated low inhibitor rates, reinforcing results from earlier clinical studies.

In addition, data from a separate study conducted in Japan called Pass provided further evidence of the treatment’s safety profile, as well as showing a higher tendency for prophylactic use among younger patients.

Dr Bruce Ewenstein, vice-president of clinical affairs at Baxter, said it would use the data to conduct further research into new therapeutic options.

He added: “This data has confirmed and extended our previous understanding of the safety, inhibitor risk and efficacy parameters of Advate and sheds new light on treatment practices in various parts of the world.”

Earlier this week, Baxter launched a new video podcast chronicling the experience of severe haemophilia A patients, in order to raise awareness of issues pertaining to quality of care.
