Baxter sustainability report shows progress on renewable power

Baxter has issued its 14th sustainability report, which details the efforts it has made to deliver social, environmental and economic value to relevant global stakeholders.

The report for 2012 showed that Baxter's total energy use for operations from renewable energy sources passed 22 percent last year, thus exceeding its 20 percent goal for 2015 ahead of schedule.

Meanwhile, greenhouse gas emissions have been slashed by 12 percent on an absolute basis since 2005, while a human rights policy and updated ethics and compliance standards for suppliers have been implemented.

These efforts earned Baxter a place in Corporate Responsibility magazine's 100 best corporate citizens list for the 12th consecutive year.

Robert Parkinson Jr, Baxter's chairman and chief executive officer, said: "Just as Baxter's mission is to save and sustain lives, we are committed to helping our many global stakeholders thrive."

During the first quarter of 2013, the company generated worldwide sales of $3.45 billion (2.32 billion pounds), a total that was up by two percent year on year and in line with internal expectations.
