Bayer and PeptiDream announce new drug discovery collaboration
Bayer has announced a partnership with PeptiDream that will utilise novel peptide-based screening technology to identify promising new drug targets.
Under the terms of the agreement, Bayer will work with the Japanese biopharmaceutical company to find new compounds for difficult-to-address drug targets using PeptiDream's proprietary Peptide Discovery Platform System (PDPS) technology.
The aim of the collaboration is to discover novel lead structures in areas of high unmet medical need in strategically important research areas such as oncology or cardiology, with the work spanning multiple therapeutic areas and target classes.
PDPS has been selected for this collaboration due to the promise offered by the novel peptide-based hit-finding technology in identifying starting points for lead-discovery projects, thanks to the broad magnitude of its libraries.
Dr Andreas Busch, member of the executive committee of Bayer's pharmaceuticals division and head of drug discovery, said: "We believe that the Peptide-Discovery Platform System of PeptiDream offers a highly promising technology for our drug discovery efforts."
PeptiDream will receive an upfront payment as well as success-based milestone payments, with Bayer owning the rights to novel lead structures generated in the course of the collaboration.
