Bayer announces new organisational structure for life science units

Bayer has announced a reorganisation of the structure of its life science business, to be implemented as of the start of next year.

From January 1st 2016, the company's business will be managed by three divisions – pharmaceuticals, consumer health and crop science. This follows the recent economic and legal separation of the Covestro business.

Dieter Weinand, Erica Mann and Liam Condon, the respective heads of the three units, will be appointed to the company's board of management, while Dr Hartmut Klusik will also join the board as labour director, with responsibility for human resources, technology and sustainability.

As part of the reorganization, the Bayer HealthCare subgroup will be dissolved, with the radiology business to be assigned to the pharmaceuticals division and the animal health unit reporting directly to crop science boss Liam Condon.

Dr Marijn Dekkers, chairman of the board of management of Bayer, said: "The aim of the new organisation is to provide the best possible support to Bayer's strategy as a leading life science company and to put ourselves in an even stronger position vis-a-vis our competitors."
