BD agrees takeover of Cato Software Solutions

BD has announced the acquisition of the Vienna-based medical technology firm Cato Software Solutions, manufacturer of the Cato and Chemocato software suites.

These comprehensive medication safety solutions help to automate key processes such as pharmacy intravenous medication preparation, physician therapy planning and nurse bedside documentation.

In doing so, the systems can create and share data to help reduce human error, standardise practice, streamline workflow and increase efficiency, thus helping to minimise costs and avoid potential medication mistakes.

This takeover will help to accelerate BD's corporate growth strategy, particularly in the pharmacy field.

William Tozzi, president for medical surgical systems at BD Medical, said: "This is another innovative example of BD's focus on reducing medication errors and improving workflow efficiencies and an extension of our longstanding commitment to healthcare worker and patient safety."

Last month, the firm announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2013, during which it experienced a 3.7 per cent year-on-year increase in revenues.
