BD completes Accuri Cytometers takeover
BD has announced that its acquisition of fellow life sciences company Accuri Cytometers has been finalised and completed.
The takeover, which was announced last month, sees BD take control of a business that develops and manufactures personal flow cytometers for researchers.
It has been closed ahead of the companies' previously announced schedule, which suggested that the deal would be finalised in the third quarter of 2011.
By purchasing the Michigan-based firm, BD will be able to expand its share of the growing market for affordable personal flow cytometers, while delivering the technology to a wider range of clients.
This could be particularly important for researchers based in areas where affordability and ease of use are critical priorities.
William Rhodes, president of BD Biosciences, said: "This includes researchers in scientific disciplines that have not traditionally used flow cytometry, such as environmental sciences, microbiology and marine biology."
Financial terms for the deal have not been disclosed, with the impact of the takeover having already been incorporated into BD's 2011 fiscal outlook.
