BD launches cell culture environment for mesenchymal stem cells

14th February 2012

BD has announced the launch of a complete cell culture environment for human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs).

The BD Mosaic Mesenchymal Stem Cell Serum-Free environment can provide cell expansion in about half the time of traditional serum-based media, delivering experimental results faster and more cost-effectively, while also reducing contamination risks.

Beginning with a low minimum seeding density, it can achieve two or more doublings per passage without the need for an interim re-feeding stage, while its serum-free composition lessens variability.

It is the first in a new line of next-generation environments for the expansion of stem cells and includes the expansion medium, a media supplement and an advanced cell culture surface coating.

Gregory Crescenzi, marketing manager for BD Biosciences, said: "Mesenchymal stem cells expand using the BD Mosaic hMSC SF cell culture environment and reliably retain their multipotency, even after many passages."

This comes in the same month that BD reported a 2.5 percent rise in revenue during the first quarter of its 2012 financial year.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801292455-ADNFCR
