Biogen Idec included in Dow Jones Sustainability World Index

Biogen Idec has become the first and only US-based biotechnology sector firm to be included in the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability World Index.

The company was one of only 333 businesses included in the list after outperforming many of its industry rivals in terms of corporate citizenship and philanthropy, talent attraction and retention, occupational health and safety, and operational eco-efficiency.

Additionally, the firm was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for North America for the fourth consecutive year, while also being awarded a top score by the Carbon Disclosure Project for its efforts to reduce its environmental impact.

George Scangos, chief executive officer of Biogen Idec, said: "Biogen Idec has put great focus on citizenship and environmental sustainability, directly incorporating them into our business activities and making them a cultural imperative across our organisation."

Next week, the company will be attending the annual congress of the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), where it will be presenting data on its newest MS drug development projects.
