Biogen reports positive data for Elocta and Alprolix
Biogen has announced new clinical data showing the effectiveness of Elocta and Alprolix in the treatment of haemophilia.
Results from the phase III trials ASPIRE and B-LONG showed how the two therapies were able to effectively manage target joint bleeding and maintain low annualised bleeding rates in people with severe haemophilia A and B.
These analyses highlight the value of extended half-life therapy in managing and controlling bleeds, and add to a robust body of clinical data, as well as the largest amount of real-world experience of any extended half-life therapy to date.
Alprolix is yet to be approved in the EU, while Elocta was recently made available in Europe, having initially launched in the US under the name Eloctate.
Dr Kate Dawson, vice-president for US medical affairs at Biogen, said: "Their ability to reduce bleed rates, which may translate into the potential for reducing some joint disease, continues to reaffirm their clinical value for people living with haemophilia A and B."
Elocta is the first haemophilia A treatment available in Europe to offer prolonged protection against bleeding episodes with prophylactic injections every three to five days.
