Biotronik completes enrolment for new Home Monitoring study

Biotronik has announced the completion of enrolment for a new study showing how its Home Monitoring system can improve outcomes for cardiac device patients.

The Impact trial aims to demonstrate how Home Monitoring, when used in conjunction with anticoagulation, can reduce the risks of stroke, systemic embolism and major bleeding among sufferers of atrial fibrillation.

Participants in the study have been implanted with a Biotronik Lumax DR-T/HF-T device with Home Monitoring technology, with patient outcomes to be compared with another group receiving conventional device evaluation.

More than 2,700 subjects have been enrolled at 100 clinical sites in the US, Canada, Germany, Australia, the UK and Denmark.

Christoph Bohmer, international president at Biotronik, said: "The Impact study will provide highly valuable insights into whether remote monitoring in combination with anticoagulation will allow for faster intervention and prevention of stroke in cardiac device patients."

Last week, the company reported positive data from a study of its Orsiro Hybrid drug-eluting stent, showing its efficacy in the treatment of heart disease patients.
