Biotronik launches new Orsiro drug-eluting stent options

5th September 2013

Biotronik has announced plans to introduce new size variants of its innovative Orsiro hybrid drug-eluting stent.

The company is launching 35 and 40 mm versions of the device – which is the industry's first hybrid drug-eluting stent to feature a bioabsorbable polymer – meaning they can now be used to address a wider range of lesions.

In two recent clinical trials, Bioflow-II and Bioflow-III, the Orsiro stent was demonstrated to offer best-in-class performance, with its safety and effectiveness exceeding that provided by a leading alternative.

The first model of the 40 mm version of the stent was implanted by Dr Heinz-Joachim Buttner of the University Heart Centre at Bad Krozingen, who praised it for its low strut thickness and good deliverability.

Alain Aimonetti, vice-president of sales and business development at Biotronik's vascular intervention division, said: "The impressive results from the Bioflow-II and Bioflow-III trials demonstrate the excellent performance of Orsiro and firmly place it at the forefront of the drug-eluting stent market."

This comes after the firm recently announced that its ProMRI technology is to be expanded to make full-body scans available to pacemaker patients for the first time.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801634099-ADNFCR
