Biotronik reports positive data from AlCath Gold trial

Biotronik has highlighted new data from Golden Time, a clinical study assessing the performance of its AlCath Gold ablation catheter among atrial fibrillation patients.

Results from the trial showed that the device can deliver faster, more efficient ablation procedures, allowing lesions created by a standard catheter in one minute to be created in only 40 seconds without compromising patient safety.

Because the gold alloy possesses a thermal conductivity that is four times higher than the platinum-iridium used in alternative catheters, greater energy delivery can be accomplished with a lower tip temperature using AlCath Gold.

Other benefits include its reduced coagulation level, enabling catheter exchange rates to be minimised during the procedure.

Christoph Bohmer, international president for Biotronik, said the company "is continuously bringing new solutions to market that help physicians excel in the way they treat patients in their daily practices".

Last week, the company reported positive 12-month results from the Delux registry, demonstrating the excellent safety and efficacy performance of its Pantera Lux paclitaxel-releasing balloon.
