BMA highlights changes in OOPE methods

The British Medical Association (BMA) has highlighted changes in out of programme experiences (OOPE) procedures, following its attempts to make the system clearer for applicants.

Delays in the processing of trainees’ application forms and a lack of communication were highlighted as problems in the process of junior doctors attempting to register new qualifications.

By drawing attention to these issues, the BMA’s junior doctors committee (JDC) has brought about a change in the guidance issued by the Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB), it announced.

Additionally, JRCPTB medical director Bill Burr stated that improvements have been made to the group’s website.

Joint deputy chair of the JDC Johann Malawana commented: “The JDC welcomes the timely response to concerns from the JRCPTB to rectify very clear service deficiencies that juniors have identified.”

The BMA – a doctors’ professional organisation – represents individuals operating in all branches of medicine in the UK and is a voluntary body.
