BMI Healthcare claims best VTE education initiative award
BMI Healthcare has earned an award for its clinical and strategic implementation and ongoing development of the Department of Health's venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention programme.
The independent hospital group claimed the best VTE education initiative award at the Lifeblood National VTE Awards, recognising the role BMI Healthcare has played in sharing best practice with the NHS.
BMI Healthcare is the UK's largest independent provider of acute surgical services and received VTE Exemplar Centre status in November 2011, spanning its whole network of hospitals and clinics.
The firm has established a national thrombosis team led by group chief pharmacist Anne Iveson and has also benefited from the expertise and support of Dr Roopen Arya's team at the King's Thrombosis Centre.
Dr Mark Ferreira, group medical director for BMI Healthcare, said: "We are delighted that BMI Healthcare has been recognised with this award. We have been working closely with the Department of Health on this important initiative to further assure patient safety and care."
Earlier this month, the company announced that a recent event organised at the BMI Bishops Wood Hospital has helped to raise more than 5,000 pounds for the local breast cancer charity Cura.
