Boehringer Ingelheim and Philogen announce AML research collaboration
Boehringer Ingelheim is partnering with Philogen to assess novel treatment approaches for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).
The partners have agreed to conduct an exploratory trial investigating novel immunotherapy concepts for relapsed AML patients, with further details on this study to be announced at a forthcoming scientific meeting.
Despite being categorised as a rare disease, AML is one of the most common types of leukaemia in adults, accounting for approximately one-third of all adult leukaemia cases in the Western world.
The average age of newly-diagnosed patients is 65 years, with the prognosis worsening with increasing age, meaning it has one of the lowest survival rates of all leukaemias.
Martin Stefanic, head of clinical development for haemato-oncology at Boehringer Ingelheim, said: "We look forward to working with Philogen – a highly innovative biotechnology company – and to progressing our clinical understanding of treatment strategies for AML."
This comes after the firm partnered with BioMed X last month to establish a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease research team through crowdsourcing.
