Boehringer Ingelheim launches new phase of Talk About Laminitis scheme
Boehringer Ingelheim is launching a series of new initiatives in support of its hugely successful Talk About Laminitis equine health awareness scheme.
Since autumn 2011, the initiative has helped thousands of horses to be correctly diagnosed with the underlying cause of their laminitis, while also raising awareness of the links between this condition and PPID, also known as Cushing's disease.
To maintain this momentum, the company is continuing to offer free laboratory ACTH tests for horses this autumn from September 2nd to November 30th, in order to improve PPID detection rates.
It is also distributing a comprehensive guide to dealing with PPID in equine practice and updating its continuous professional development website BI Academy to include new information on both laminitis and PPID.
Veterinary epidemiologist Dr Joanne Ireland from the Animal Health Trust said: "The take-home message is that if you are seeing laminitis … in horses in the autumn, the probability of PPID being diagnosed is higher than during other times of year."
Last month, Boehringer Ingelheim underlined its commitment to animal health by launching a Seraquin fundraising campaign to generate money for Hounds for Heroes.
