Boehringer Ingelheim receives new EU approval for Ingelvac CircoFLEX
Boehringer Ingelheim has announced that its porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) vaccine Ingelvac CircoFLEX has received a new European approval.
The European Medicines Agency has ratified the vaccine for use during pregnancy and lactation in sows, for the protection against PCV2-related diseases. It has been shown to reduce mortality, clinical signs and lesions associated with the condition.
PCV2 can cause a variety of clinical signs in pigs, such as wasting and reproductive disease, but also subclinical infections. As such, it can cause extreme suffering in animals and economic damage for farmers.
This new approval makes Ingelvac CircoFLEX the first PCV2 vaccine licensed in the EU to protect piglets as well as sows.
George Heidgerken, head of Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, said: "We are proud that we can now offer veterinarians and farmers the means for an even broader protection of pig herds against this fatal virus."
The product was first launched in 2006 and has been used in the treatment of more than one billion pigs worldwide.
