Boston Scientific launches neurostimulation trial for chronic migraine

Boston Scientific has announced the launch of a new trial to determine whether occipital nerve stimulation can safely and effectively treat chronic migraines.

The study will utilise the company's Precision System to provide neurostimulation directly to the occipital nerve via a small programmable implanted device, thus masking the pain associated with the condition.

Results from the multicentre, randomised, placebo-controlled study will be used to support future regulatory applications for the device, which is not yet approved for this indication in any territories.

The first patient to undergo this procedure as part of the trial has already been treated at Mercy Hospital in Missouri.

Earlier this month, the company announced the US and EU launch of Guidezilla, a new guide extension catheter for use in complex percutaneous coronary intervention procedures.
