Boston Scientific launches Renegade Hi-Flo Fathom Pre-Loaded System

Boston Scientific has announced the launch of the Renegade Hi-Flo Fathom Pre-Loaded System, a device with applications in the treatment of uterine fibroids and liver cancer.

The system combines the functionality of the Fathom-16 Steerable Guidewire and Renegade Hi-Flo Microcatheter in a single platform for use in delivering diagnostic, embolic and therapeutic materials to the peripheral vasculature.

Among the advantages the device brings to interventional radiologists are its torque response and transmission, high flow capacity and time-saving all-in-one functionality.

It is the latest addition to the company's portfolio of products for minimally invasive procedures and is being made available in eight configurations to suit a range of needs.

Joe Fitzgerald, senior vice-president and president of Boston Scientific's endovascular unit, said: "We will continue to bring additional technologies to market that advance the various therapies performed by specialists in vascular and interventional radiology."

According to data from the firm's 2010 financial report last week, Boston Scientific product sales came to $7.81 billion (4.85 billion pounds) in the last 12 months.
