Boston Scientific’s Latitude remote monitoring system shows benefits
Boston Scientific has announced findings from a new study showing the significant healthcare benefits associated with its Latitude remote patient management system.
Data from the PREDICt-RM study revealed a 33 percent relative reduction in the risk of death in patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy defibrillators who were remotely monitored via Latitude than those who were not.
Latitude-monitored patients also benefited from a 19 percent relative reduction in hospitalisations for any cause, further illustrating the system's wide-ranging benefits.
The technology works by connecting a home communicator to the patient's implanted device through wireless telemetry, enabling automatic collection of both physiologic data and information from the implanted unit itself.
Dr Kenneth Stein, chief medical officer for rhythm management at Boston Scientific, said: "We are very excited to have such strong data demonstrating substantially improved survival and reduced hospitalisation rates in the patients followed on Latitude."
This comes after the firm also recently reported study data showing its transvenous implantable cardioverter defibrillators can be equally effective among patients who have and have not received routine defibrillation testing.
