Boston Scientific’s Vercise DBS shows Parkinson’s benefits

Boston Scientific has announced positive findings from a new study of its Vercise DBS (deep brain stimulation) System, showing the benefits it can offer sufferers of Parkinson's disease.

According to interim data from the Vantage DBS trial, the device delivered a significant improvement in motor scores at six months after implantation, as well as quality of life benefits and other clinical advantages.

In particular, the ability to utilise multiple independent current control options to selectively stimulate areas within the brain was highlighted as playing a potentially vital role in providing improved outcomes for these patients.

Professor Dr Lars Timmermann, neurological principal investigator of the trial, said: "The ability to utilise multiple independent current control to selectively stimulate areas within the brain may provide improved outcomes for these patients."

This comes after the company last month received European CE Mark approval for Guide DBS, which represents the world's first deep brain stimulation visualisation tool.
