Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer to report new Eliquis data
Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer are to report new data from clinical trials of their stroke prevention therapy Eliquis later this month.
The companies will attend the European Society of Cardiology Congress between August 27th and 31st 2011, in order to present findings that support the drug's use as a means of preventing stroke among atrial fibrillation sufferers.
Presentations will focus on results from the Aristotle and Averroes trials, which have evaluated the safety and efficacy of Eliquis among different patient groups, compared to warfarin therapy.
Eliquis is the approved trade name of the compound apixaban, with the drug having been ratified in Europe as a means of preventing venous thromboembolic events among patients who have had hip or knee replacement surgery.
It has not yet been approved as a stroke prevention therapy in any territories.
The companies have already published preliminary findings from the Aristotle trial, revealing that Eliquis was able to meet its primary and secondary efficacy endpoints.
