Bristol-Myers Squibb to present new Eliquis data at ESC Congress
Bristol-Myers Squibb and partner Pfizer will be presenting data from a number of new Eliquis studies at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress later this month.
The companies will attend the symposium in Munich to present data from various trials of the apixaban-based therapy, which has been available in Europe since last year.
Among the data being presented is pre-specified sub-analysis from the Aristotle trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of Eliquis compared to warfarin in relation to renal function in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation.
To date, the drug has not been approved for the prevention of stroke or systemic embolism in patients with atrial fibrillation in any country.
Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer have been working together on the development of Eliquis – an oral anticoagulant discovered by Bristol-Myers Squibb – since 2007.
The companies are currently attempting to secure US regulatory approval of the drug, having achieved European approval in May 2011.
