Cerus elects new member to board of directors

Cerus Corporation has announced that it is to elect Gail Schulze to the company’s board of directors, bringing the number on its board to seven.

Ms Schulze will join the five other independent members, with her background in management having held positions at YM Biosciences, Allegiance Healthcare Corporation and Baxter Healthcare Corporation.

B J Cassin, chairman of Cerus, welcomed Ms Schulze to the board and praised her previous experience.

“Gail brings considerable operational and managerial experience in multi-national biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to our board and her experience in the plasma fractionation business will be particularly relevant in providing insight to our commercialisation efforts.”

Having most recently held the post of chief executive officer (CEO) at YM Biosciences, Ms Shulze was previously CEO at Eximias Pharmaceutical Corporation and chief operating officer at Aventis Behring.

She also has served on many private and public boards and currently sits on the board of YM Biosciences.
