Cordis introduces “breakthrough devices”
Cordis Endovascular has announced that it is to introduce two “breakthrough devices” for the treatment of artery blockages in the lower leg across the US.
The Coridis Corporation division states that the Frontrunner XP CTO and Outback re-entry catheters are used to “facilitate the placement of a guidewire in minimally invasive procedures”, which include angioplasty and the stenting of chronic total occlusions.
The development moves beyond traditional methods as the company states that the Frontrunner and Outback offer doctors the opportunity to “break through complete blockages” in order to allow treatment with stents or balloons.
By doing this, Cordis Endovascular states that patients can often avoid “difficult surgeries” and amputations.
Commenting on the devices, Dr Dennis Donohoe, worldwide vice president for clinical and regulatory affairs at Cordis Corporation, said: “With the nationwide availability of these devices, many patients with diabetes or peripheral artery disease may now be able to avoid having amputations due to serious blockages in their legs.”
Cordis Corporation states that it has been combating less invasive treatments for vascular disease for 40 years.
