Covidien publishes positive Parietex ProGrip study data
Covidien has published new interim study data that demonstrates the benefits its new Parietex ProGrip self-fixating mesh can provide during the inguinal hernia repair process.
The product is currently partway through a nine-site international study that compares the performance of the system to the Lichtenstein repair method, the current standard of care in procedures of this kind.
It has been found that patients using Parietex ProGrip experienced significant reductions in early pain levels compared to those whose hernias were treated via the traditional means.
Thus far, 390 patients have been enrolled for the ongoing study programme, with a total of 600 set to take part by the time it is concluded.
Dr Michael Tarnoff, chief medical officer at Covidien, said: "These results underscore Covidien's commitment to providing clinicians with the evidence they need to confidently adopt our products to improve patient outcomes."
Earlier this month, the manufacturer announced that Jose Almeida has been selected as its new president and chief executive officer as of July 1st 2011.
