Diabetes Weight Loss Injection Hits UK Market
Controversial diabetic medication Semaglutide, used by celebs to aid with weight loss, will soon be made available in Britain.
Trademarked ‘Ozempic’, semaglutide is only approved in the UK to manage diseases like diabetes that are connected to weight. However, it has a significant uptake for unapproved use, leading to scarcities for people who actually need it to manage their illness.
Novo Nordisk, a major Danish pharmaceutical company, stated it will launch the weight-loss medication Wegovy “as soon as possible” with Boots set to be the vendor.
The cost won’t be revealed until it hits the market, but those already using Ozempic have revealed that 30 days of treatment costs approximately £180.
Semaglutide comes in the form of an injection which is used on a weekly basis. It works by minimising the users hunger similarly to a chemical gastric band.
Apparently, this product is what Kim Kardashian used to fit into one of Marilyn Monroe’s dresses at last year’s met gala.
A private General Practitioner with expertise in fat loss, Dr David Eccleston, explained that “No medical professional in the UK is allowed to actively promote Ozempic as a treatment for obesity because it is outside the product licence.”
A representative from retailer Boots described Wegovy as “a prescription-only weight-loss medicine that can help to regulate appetite and reduce cravings.” As well as “an effective medicine to achieve sustained weight loss when used alongside a reduced calorie diet, increased physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices.”
