DJO Global’s TaperFill Total Hip Replacement receives first implantation

DJO Global has announced that its TaperFill Total Hip Replacement has received its first ever patient implantation.

Dr Richard Reitman of the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital co-designed and implanted the first TaperFill, which has been specially developed to accommodate a minimally invasive procedure.

The TaperFill Hip Stem design incorporates a proven tapered wedge stem philosophy that integrates a filling proximal geometry to prevent subsidence, while it is also the first DJO product to feature the new proprietary P2 porous coating.

Initial implantations of TaperFill are now underway, with commercialisation anticipated by the end of 2013.

Bryan Monroe, senior vice-president and general manager of DJO Surgical, said: "This evolution in implant design is well-suited for a minimally invasive approach by the surgeon to facilitate the patient’s return to normal activity."

Last week, the company announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2013, during which it achieved year-on-year growth of 3.1 percent.
