Eli Lilly and Roche Partner on EAPP for Early Identification of Alzheimer’s
Eli Lilly and Roche are working together as part of a partnership to assist with the research and development of Roche’s EAPP (Elecsys® Amyloid Plasma Panel). This blood test is cutting-edge and hopes to help in the early identification of Alzheimer’s disease.
There are currently significant barriers when it comes to initial and effective detection of Alzheimer’s, with almost three quarters of those who have the disease not actually having been given a diagnosis.
Making a patient’s road to diagnosis quicker and easier will be crucial to addressing the burden that Alzheimer’s is placing on healthcare systems. Part of this involves facilitating access to novel medicines as they appear on the market.
The joint goal of Roche and Lilly in this partnership is to help individuals suffering with this disease by enhancing the path to an early and precise diagnosis and therapy.
CEO of Roche Diagnostics, Matt Sause, explained that “over 55 million people are living with dementia, and this is projected to increase to nearly 140 million by 2050. The Elecsys® Amyloid Plasma Panel has the potential to streamline a person’s journey to diagnosis and access to future treatment options.”
The US FDA has categorized the EAPP as an important and innovative device, granting Roche a Breakthrough Device Designation.
