Elsevier acquires medical training product NurseSquared

Elsevier has confirmed the acquisition of NurseSquared, an electronic training tool for medical students.

Based on a simulation of an electronic health record (EHR) and charting system, the product teaches students how to process the appropriate clinical documentation for patient assessments.

According to Elsevier, the addition of NurseSquared to its offering should enable the firm to provide a “more complete curriculum solution” for its academic clients.

“Simulation is becoming an important part of the overall health science curriculum and EHRs are being used increasingly in practice,” explained Sally Schrefer, the company’s managing director for nursing and health professions.

Features of NurseSquared include an integrated competency assessment and documentation that accurately reflects the electronic records commonly used in hospitals.

Elsevier said the acquisition will take place with immediate effect and the terms of the agreement will not be released.

Last month, the medical publisher announced that Dr Henk Moed will join the Elsevier ranks as a senior scientific adviser in February.
