Fresenius presents award for environmental achievement in renal care
Fresenius Medical Care has allied with the European Dialysis and Transplant Nurses Association/European Renal Care Association (EDTNA/ERCA) to present an award for environmental achievements in renal care.
The organisations allied to present the first Green Innovation Award at the EDTNA/ERCA International Conference in Sweden, paying tribute to innovative ideas, practices and procedures that promote environmental protection in haemodialysis treatment.
First prize went to a pilot project in Saudi Arabia that helped to reduce overall water consumption by more than 50 percent through the use of reverse osmosis units, with second place going to a Spanish project that achieved savings in dialysate and water use by adjusting the dialysate flow to the blood flow rate.
Guido Giordana, director of business operation management for the NephroCare division at Fresenius Medical Care, said: "I am happy to find the environmental impact of dialysis is gaining more and more attention, including at the point of care."
Last month, the company announced its financial results for the first half of the year, during which it achieved a record-breaking six-month performance.
