GDC confirms imminent departure of chief executive and registrar
The General Dental Council (GDC) has announced that Evlynne Gilvarry, its chief executive and registrar, is leaving the organisation early next year.
Ms Gilvarry, who has led the organisation for more than five years, will continue in the role until January 2016, with an interim chief executive to be appointed until a permanent replacement is found.
The GDC has praised Ms Gilvarry through a period of substantial change, having overseen a significant modernisation of the regulator's systems and processes to help it manage a substantial recent increase in workload.
Her work has involved developing collaborative working practices with key stakeholders, improving dental regulation and preventing duplication, while arguing for legislative changes that will ensure GDC fitness to practice processes will be more efficient and effective from 2016.
GDC chair Bill Moyes said: "She has driven forward some very significant and necessary improvements during her time with the GDC which will benefit the organisation well into the future."
Ms Gilvarry took over as head of the GDC on October 20th 2010, joining from the General Osteopathic Council, where she worked as chief executive and registrar since November 2007.
